How do I figure how many bags of mortar I will need?

Figure on using 3 bags of mortar per ever 100 blocks

 

How do you mix mortar?

Mix 1 part mortar to 2 parts sand,  200 lbs sand per bag, 650 lbs sand per 100 block

 

How do you figure how much mortar and sand you will need for brick?

Figure 7 bags of mortar per every 1000 brick and 1 ton of sand per every 10 bags of mortar.

 

How do you mix concrete?

Concrete should be mixed 3-2-1.  A class “A” yard of concrete would be 1800 lbs gravel, 1400 lbs sand and 6 bags of cement.

 

How do I know how many wall ties to use for brick?

Use 1 per every 10 brick

 

How do I figure how many pavers I will need?

Take the length X’s the width X’s  4.5

 

How do I figure how many courses of block I will need?

Take the height of the wall X’s 1.5 for the number of courses

 

How do I figure how many blocks per course I will need?

75% of the length of the wall will equal the number of blocks per course

 

How do I figure how many brick I will need?

7 brick per sq ft of wall area,  1 ½ brick per running ft of wall space,  4.625 courses of brick per ft of wall height

 

How do I mix fireclay?

3 parts sand, 2 parts fireclay, 1 part Portland cement

 

I want to fill the cores of the block for added strength.  How much will it take?

8” block apx 1 yd per 100 block

12” block apx 1 2/3 yd per 100 block

 

How much do block weigh?

8”             36 lb
